Helen was raised aboard a sailboat on the Red Cliff Reservation, sailing through the Apostle Islands—an early life shaped by water, wind, and the quiet power of the natural world. This nomadic and deeply sensory upbringing anchors her work as a mixed media acrylic artist. She draws from botanical forms, landscapes, and ecological systems, layering texture and color to explore themes of memory, transformation, and the sacred embedded in the everyday.
Her artistic process is equally informed by her background in microbiology and food science. Years spent examining life at the microscopic level taught her to notice the unseen—to recognize beauty in structure, repetition, and decay. That scientific curiosity flows through my creative practice, blending with the Salesian spirituality she first encountered during her early education at the Convent of the Visitation. The result is work that lives in the space between intuition and inquiry, prayer and pattern.
Now living in Tennessee with two cats (Ninja Monkey and Greymalkin) and two dogs (Stormageddon, a very grumpy husky, and Frank, a gentle borzoi), she continues to be inspired by both the wildness and the intimacy of life. Her hope is that each piece offers a moment of stillness—a place to reconnect with the natural world and the subtle stories it’s always telling.
